LADIES WHO LUNCHEON (+ dad)

Yesterday we went out for a spontaneous lunch out to The Pack Horse, Affetside, to celebrate my Gran's birthday (its not till Sunday but we go away). As always, the food was lovely! I recommend both the 'Smoked Duck' and the 'Asian-style Pulled Pork' flatbreads. Both to die for.

I was in a Florence Welch mood all yesterday morning; hence my outfit choices. My dad told me I looked like a gypsy hippie and that's fine with me.

I'm not quite sure what I did with my hair...better not to talk about it. I also went, by accident, a bit too heavy with my eye makeup which meant I was reluctant to take a family photo let alone a selfie.

I've had this George at Asda leather jacket for about two or three years, and it was one of the best things I've ever bought (or my grandma has ever bought for me...).

My headband is a recent purchase from http://bloombyellen.com. I loveeeee their cute designs, especially because I'm constantly head over heels in love with florals. They also do the cutest scrunchies...on my shopping list!

I absolutely love this dress, even if it's a little revealing. It was one of my mum's dresses that she didn't want anymore and now its mine *party popper emoji*!
My necklace, despite being broken, remains one of my favourite pieces of costume jewellery and its great for a low cut dress like this.
My lipstick is NARS' 'Anna', one of the best birthday presents.

These sandals were a great buy too! I got them last year when they were 'in'. You know, that girlie goth sandal trend...I went a lot safer than most. It was my best friend Jennifer that I was shopping with in Manchester at the time. Upstairs in New Look, I couldn't decide whether to go for the flat ones or the chunky platform ones. I think I made, well we, well her, made the right choice. They give me more height!!

Here's my family photo, minus my little sister. And one of the pre-birthday girl.

A WHOLE LOT OF PEACE + LOVE

FRINGING + PAISLEY = A WHOLE LOT OF PEACE + LOVE

I'm sat writing this blog post slowly sipping both my can of Coca Cola and my iced fruit tea, relaxing after this weekend's manic trips to Asda. This post is about my Asda haul that I've done over the past two days but apologies if I sidetrack as usual.

My mum, being the usual working mum with little time to go shopping and treat herself, always used to buy her clothes and some of ours from George at Asda (our uniforms too of course!!). So I've grown up practically loving their clothes. Ok, sometimes they're not always great but other times they are on point!

And this weekend they have been particularly "on point".

SATURDAY
Firstly, I bought a gorgeous suede waistcoat in the sale (reduced from £18 to £10). I thought it was an absolute bargain, my mum did not of course. But I said I'd pay for it (and now have) and it looks SO lovely on! I feel like a hippie in it because of the suede and fringing. But at the same time I could wear it for a meal out or another occasion as its smart enough.

I also came across another lil' waistcoat yesterday; a pale coral, kind of knitted one, with fringing and cut out lace bits. I'm afraid the pictures of this got lost so if I get chance I will update this post sometime soon with pictures.

Thirdly, I found some harem but not extreme pants with a lovely gold detail on the pockets. They're super comfy, linen trousers that look great rolled up at the bottom. I also love the tassels. Someone transport me to Morocco.

SUNDAY
We went back to Asda on the Sunday, planning on returning some items but of course, we ended up buying more! The stupid store had closed its fitting room due to the sale, which resulted in my mum and I hilariously trying the clothes on in front of one of the mirrors. We got a few funny looks to say the least.

I ended up buying this gorgeous cut out shoulders top. Its a perfect length and if worn a bit less baggy than in this picture its great as a dress with leggings. I totally think this top can be worn dressed up or down.
I also bought these lovely slate grey trousers which are super comfy. Unfortunately I have to roll them up (being incredibly short) but I still love the relaxed yet dressed up vibe they give off.

The new bag I bought will be featured in its own post! (Yes, I think its that special).

OH I WISH I WAS A PUNK ROCKER

Think back to when you were age seven and wore a headband everyday to school. They were "all the rage" back then. Now come back to the present day, why not wear one again?
Channel your inner child and don a garland headband (elastic or metal/plastic band) this summer. They are sure to give your outfit some freshness and prettiness.

Festivals are the place to wear flowers in your hair like a punk rocker. What works best with a garland at a festival is knee high wellies, a pastel crop top and a good pair of shorts.

I began writing this post earlier this week, desperately wanting a flower crown. Turns out that last night I won "Most Fashionable" at my youth group Encounter, and yes (!!!) the prize was a gorgeous white and pale peach flower crown!!
Here's a lil cute sequence of selfies with my super pretty friend Millie, featuring my flower crown prize:

A little flower crown history...

It is thought that the crowns originated in Ancient Greece, and were worn by the Ancient Greek to special occasions. Wearing one meant that you were "honouring the Gods" and as it was a similar time to Julius Caesar, the laurel leaf wreath became fashionable.

Yet, by the European Medieval period the crown was highly unpopular as pagan religions were adorning statues of their Gods with them, as well as using them in religious ceremonies. Most were condemned for blasphemy.

Flower crowns are also an element of traditional Ukrainian folk dress. Wreaths composed of periwinkle and myrtle were worn to wedding ceremonies, placed on the top of the couple's heads after the vow exchange. It is these kinds of crowns we see at festivals and weddings today.

A flower crown made out of orange blossom flower was worn during an Ancient Chinese wedding. The flower symbolises fertility and were thought to bring children to a marriage as "orange trees blossom and bear fruit at the same time".

Queen Victoria, the woman who brought the white wedding gown into fashion, also helped along the appearance of flower crowns into Europe. She borrowed the Chinese idea and wore an orange blossom wreath in her hair when she married Prince Albert in 1840. From then, orange blossom was constantly associated with weddings and the phrase "to gather orange blossoms" adopted the meaning: "to seek a wife".

Closer to the present day, the 1960's American flower crowns were for the hippies, symbols of peace and love, the primary ideals of the hippie movement. Although "hippie style was a subculture of the time", we began to see the trend coming back into weddings due to the rebirth of the crown.

Today, flower crowns are the 'go to' festival or at least summer accessory. They come in all shapes and sizes, with all different types of flowers but today they are artificial. Still worn at weddings, the crowns are perfect: dainty one for the bride, dress colour matched ones for bridesmaids and oversized colourful ones for young flower girls.
