LFW: Topshop Unique

Topshop. Topshop. Topshop.
Unique. Unique. Unique.

Topshop Unique have well and truly outdone themselves. Last season's collection was beyond sufficient description but this collection is on a whole other level.

Every look so perfect for spring and summer, the SS15 collection brought old fashioned cuts in modern styles and candy colours.
My favourite colour combination is right at the start of the show; black, white, sky blue and cherry pink. The blue and pink contrast so perfectly and white and black keep their known union. The first few looks worn by Cara and Jourdan, as well as a few other models, were predominantly sportswear in look. Cara wore a fashionable version of a tennis dress with a cylindrical blue bag. While Jourdan wore skin-tight black leggings and a stripy navy, red and white vest.
Lots of girly dresses adorned the floor space; fitted but floaty in light, summery fabrics. A lot of sheer was used, calling for skin on show. But the girl's frames were still covered nicely and the embellishments attracted away wandering eyes.
Makeup was kept simple; either a bold lip and natural eyes or the other way around. And hair was mostly left loose, or tucked behind ears. The 'undone' look works well for Topshop and

Cara Delevingne, Topshop's latest campaign recruit, completely rocked it; her sly smile making an appearance on her first walk. She even managed to be totally unprofessional during the finale; turning to check the other models were actually following her, and then laughing with the model behind her. Unprofessional yes, but it gave the show a memorable and youthfulness that the Topshop girl has always had.

What I loved most about Topshop Unique's show, and their previous one, is that their clothes are so accessible to young girls. They are youth-orientated and the Unique collections of these seasons are high-street Topshop enough to be worn everyday.

Outfit inspiration

I have taken this week's outfit inspiration from the lovely tumblr.

Its Autumn yes; but Winter winds are already setting in.

I wish I was American at this time of the year. I'm not only taking my inspiration from Tumblr but also from the Mary-Kate and Ashley film 'Getting There'. In the film, the girls eventually end up in Utah for the Winter Games. Dressed in Chanel ski-wear they hit the slopes; then sit around the fire with friends. Throughout the film, the twins outfits are effortlessly chic but so normal American girl at the same time. For this outfit, I'm channeling the sitting around the fire, popping out to the shops or pub in Utah look.

Keep cosy and warm in a pastel cable knit, over a black cami; you can always take the knit off if you're too hot, or if the room is nice and warm.

Pair them with ripped, pale denim jeans (see a previous blog post on the beauties). Go for a pair that are slouchy and comfortable but still ooze a minute amount of sophistication and a whole lot of a girl-next-door vibe.

The wellington-Chelsea-boot hybrid, a la MBMJ, in a similar pastel colour to your knit or a jet black for contrast, keeps the outfit surprisingly feminine and chic, but on the other hand, toughens it up.

Black and silver jewellery should adorn the ears and fingers; makeup neutral and natural.

Hair would look great in a messy plait or bun if long; if short, down and teased a little would keep the cute, "I've just been skiing and taken my helmet off" factor.

MBMJ

OMG. I. Am. In. Love. With. Marc. Jacobs.
Like seriously, he has to be my favourite designer; along with all the other creators, stylists and designers who form his many brands.

Katie Hillier and Luella Bartley have taken over MBMJ and wow, they've done such a great job. They had so much riding on this collection. They absolutely smashed it last season, to put it frankly. Their debut collection of Ninja-BMX-ers was such a hit, and there is no argument over who this fashion house now belongs to.

"Let there be house… I am the creator and this is my house, and in my house there is only house music... once you went to my house it then becomes our house, and our house music"… boomed Rhythm Controll's "My House", setting the mood.

Bringing pure London spirit to their second collection, Hillier and Bartley focused on British rave culture.

Their show definitely defined who the Marc Jacobs girl is: quirkly, cool, uniquely sexy, and oh so Londoner.

House of Harlot, London, provided the masses of latex which was made into black leggings, flesh-coloured full-skirted minis with an airbrushed polka dot print and bandeau tops of which some were put over cropped t-shirts. As British Vogue stated "A lot of the appeal here can be found in the styling".

The baggy T-shirt dresses; nylon slips in canary yellow and the boilersuit were all teamed with the favourable London love; the wellington-Chelsea-boot hybrid.

Rihanna for TUSH Magazine

Rihanna is looking as perfect as ever at her shoot for TUSH Magazine.

Shot by Gomillion Leupold (what a cool name), Rihanna looks like a wild silvery white haired beast yet still looks so beautiful. Yusef Williams has done a great job wth the hair; the silvery colour clashes with her Beijan skin tone and keeping it straight throughout the shoot keeps it from taking centre stage. The makeup by Lora Arellano (another cool name) is so beautiful. The warm colours in the second photo from the shoot contrast perfectly with the silvery hair.

As a known lover of fashion, not to mentioning posing (and showing off her fantastic curvy figure), Rihanna pulls the shoot off with effortless finesse.

For me, she is one of the many female celebrities in this world who epitomise beauty. She's not got exactly model proportions, and is way more beautiful than any model. But that makes her perfect and so different.

I can't wait for her Fenty collection to come out. No doubt we will all be lapping it up; I'm praying it's going to be available in the UK too.
